カレライス Japanese Curry rice

Most of us if not all are familiar with curry and it’s vast and flavorful versions and just so happens that Japanese curry rice is one of them.

Curry originated in middle and eastern parts of Asia and it’s usually eaten with rice, or paneer.

Japanese curry rice as featured on photo had it’s meat sliced thinly unlike the usual chunks we see which makes it easier to eat and what goes with curry the best?? you guessed it, RICE along with jasmine tea.

I didn’t paid much attention to the idea of eating curry before since I find the curry in MNL a little too boring for my palate; at least until I tasted Japanese curry and the authentic Indian curry (which was spicy) this my love for herbs and spices seem to have grown more.

Nothing beats mixed herby aroma of it when cooked in scratch but in case you wanna whip a serving or two up, there are curry roux that you can buy at selected stores near you and use your YouTube scholarship and look for the recipe.

With all that said, I’d be delighted to hear from you your views before or after tasting the delectable dish.

A Sudden crave for spicy food

Having an urge to just eat some snack or a meal in the midst of quarantine can sometimes be inconvenient and that’s where instant food steps in to sate it.

I was glad to have a few packs of this spicy Samyang Cheese. This said noodle brand have been all the rave when the Samyang Challenge took Internet by storm. I personally like the spicy cheese and curry noodles since there’s still flavor for you to taste aside from the intense spice you feel just by having a drop of the spicy paste.

All of us can relate to intense cravings so I know just the noodles won’t be enough to satisfy my stomach; hence I went ahead and added jumbo hotdogs, boiled fish balls and some sliced Napa cabbage. Of course I won’t forget adding a bit more cayenne and red pepper powder.

The dish may have been spicy but I enjoyed eating it, specially with a glass of cola. I couldn’t feel my tongue but one thing’s for sure; I’ll definitely bask in it’s spicy goodness over and over.

Something homemade

Ever since ECQ started, most of us were stuck inside our houses and trying to be productive whether WFH or just You and your housemates simply doing chores together.

It’s no joke to be stuck inside your home for 2 or so months hardly going outside due to the ongoing pandemic. With all the said tasks and hobbies done and still, you ran out of things to do.

During my stay at a friend’s household for a few weeks, The four of us were talking about Japanese food and thought to myself; “I should make gyoza tomorrow”. Knowing them at least, we’re all foodies and love to enjoy food.

So the next day, I went to buy some ingredients for it and have YT help me on the step by step gyoza making process. It’s fairly simple and I recommend to make batches of these should you crave for more. I had fun folding the wrappers too.

Fun fact: you can store gyoza in the fridge for a month.

Right after I served the dish, it didn’t even take long before everyone had consumed the first batch I made which I completely understand since I don’t eat much. Gyoza and some Dim sum became an exemption. It’s safe to say the household enjoyed it and now they make one too whenever.

Chocolate Rice Porridge

Widely known by Filipinos as Champorado. When other countries have pancakes or waffles for breakfast, Pinoys have this.

This childhood known dish has always been a favorite besides Sopas (creamy macaroni soup) and Lugaw (rice porridge). Usually homemade, it can also be bought just around a Pinoy neighborhood that sells Filipino breakfast varieties. This chocolate porridge won’t be complete without the signature evaporated milk on it.

Back when I was still a kid till now, I enjoy dishes like this. Some think of it as weird but it also goes well with tuyo (dried salted fish); strange food combo right?? Sort of but it compliments each other’s flavor.

For me, my mornings will surely be as nostalgic whenever I am served with this chocolatey hearty bowl.

Pan de Sal

A classic Filipino breakfast bread with a twist???Here’s what TheLoneMiss has to offer.

Whilst the pandemic season, all access to stores are very limited (bake shops included) because all must follow certain guidelines to preventing the spread of covid-19.

Just when I was about to give up looking for another snack to get my hands on, A lovely lady named Joy had shared rather a strange bread. I was surprised at first to look at it because it looked so perfectly shaped but when I looked closer, it was a Pan de Sal.

Another known fact; Pan de Sal is a Filipino classic bread that goes perfectly with beverages like coffee and even hot chocolate. I personally like to put either liver spread or meat with OJ to drink.

Going back this isn’t just your typical Pan de Sal, it’s actually Ube(purple yam) Pan de Sal. Now we all know how most people love the taste of ube and there are recipes that have ube in it. Bread is Ube, the thick sweet filling is Ube, Idk everything about it is just so delightful.

I recommend you buying one or making it in case you’ll crave one of those soft and delicious bread.

Marugame Udon‘s Bestseller

Whenever someone asks me what variety of Noodles do I prefer, I’d definitely say I’m an Udon fan myself. I’d literally go on with just Udon in clear vegetable or meat and bone broth with a touch of sping onions for garnish. I’ve heard some udon restaurants before and I went to one in SM City Megamall but really didn’t have time to actually dine there so I thought; “Why not try one now?”

Whilst my free time stroll on SM City Fairview after Payday, I got to see a branch of a restaurant named Marugame Udon and I knew that moment that it was my time to enjoy a hearty bowl of thick noodles.

Not wasting any minute, I went to the counter and buy myself a large bowl of their bestseller called; Beef Bukakke Udon. Now don’t let the name fool you, this bowl is full of umami flavour that will take your tastebuds to an adventure. Although people with High Blood pressure or with High cholesterol levels are off limits with the said food.

Like any other foodie out there, I took my sweet time savouring the warm bowl presented to me. The best part was for me to ogle onto that sexy runny egg before breaking it.

I felt so much better after consuming the whole thing and I kid you not when I say that I’ll visit Marugame Udon as frequent as I can. Feel free to voice out your experience towards the said restaurant and recommend me some other delectable dishes to try next.

Nutmeg Ice Cream

Simple Recipe I made last minute to satisfy quarantine cravings.

To mark my 3rd week after leaving my Friends’ House, I decided to whip up some good old vanilla and cinnamon ice cream with just salt, all purpose cream and a bit of condensed milk. I’m not really fond of too sweet thus this dessert became an exemption; I replaced cinnamon and vanilla with nutmeg since it weren’t available in the kitchen.

The thing that I noticed throughout my years of eating is prolly my tastebuds constantly changing and on this period, I pretty much enjoy not too sweet foods. Right after the ice cream was ready to serve, my friends including their mom and cousin ended up loving it specially when served in ala mode style.
